Cat C13 Head Bolt Torque Specifications

When it comes to assembling or reassembling the cylinder head of a Cat C13 engine, it is crucial to follow the recommended torque specifications for the head bolts. Proper torque ensures that the head bolts are tightened to the correct level, providing a secure and leak-free seal between the cylinder head and the engine block. Below is a table outlining the head bolt torque specifications for the Cat C13 engine:

Head Bolt Torque (ft. lbs.) Torque (Nm)
Bolt 1 80-85 108-115
Bolt 2 80-85 108-115
Bolt 3 80-85 108-115
Bolt 4 80-85 108-115
Bolt 5 80-85 108-115
Bolt 6 80-85 108-115
Bolt 7 80-85 108-115
Bolt 8 80-85 108-115

Steps to Torque the Head Bolts

Follow these steps to properly torque the head bolts of a Cat C13 engine:

  1. Clean the threads of the head bolts and the bolt holes using a suitable cleaning agent.
  2. Apply a small amount of engine oil or lubricant to the threads of each head bolt.
  3. Start by tightening each head bolt to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm) in a crisscross pattern.
  4. Next, torque each head bolt to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm) in the same crisscross pattern.
  5. Finally, torque each head bolt to the specified torque of 80-85 ft. lbs. (108-115 Nm) in the same crisscross pattern.
  6. Double-check the torque of each head bolt to ensure they are properly tightened.

Following these torque specifications and steps will help ensure the proper installation and sealing of the cylinder head on a Cat C13 engine. It is important to refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines and consult a professional if you have any doubts or concerns.
