The 3RZ-FE is a four-cylinder gasoline engine produced by Toyota. It belongs to the RZ engine family, which also includes the 2RZ-FE and 1RZ-E engines. The 3RZ-FE engine was introduced in 1995 and has been widely used in various Toyota models, including the Tacoma, T100, and 4Runner. Head Bolt Torque Specifications

To ensure proper assembly and sealing of the cylinder head, it is crucial to torque the head bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications. The head bolt torque for the 3RZ-FE engine is as follows:

Procedure for Torquing the Head Bolts

To torque the head bolts of the 3RZ-FE engine, follow these steps:

1. Start by cleaning the threads of the head bolts and the bolt holes in the engine block using a suitable cleaning agent. This will ensure accurate torque readings and prevent any debris from interfering with the tightening process.

2. Apply a small amount of engine oil to the threads and washer surface of each head bolt. This will help reduce friction during tightening and ensure proper torque transfer.

3. Begin by torquing all head bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) in the numerical order specified by the manufacturer. Use a torque wrench and make sure to apply the torque gradually and evenly.

4. After torquing all head bolts to the initial torque, repeat the process and torque them to 43 ft. lbs. (58 Nm) in the same numerical order.

5. Finally, torque the four remaining head bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm) in the specified order.

6. Once all head bolts are torqued to the final specification, perform an additional 90-degree clockwise rotation on each bolt. This step is crucial for achieving the proper clamping force and ensuring a secure seal between the cylinder head and engine block.

7. Double-check the torque of all head bolts using a torque wrench to ensure they are within the specified range.
