Steps to Torque the Head Bolts

Follow these steps to properly torque the head bolts on a 22R engine:

  1. Clean the threads of the head bolts and the bolt holes in the engine block using a suitable cleaning agent.
  2. Apply a small amount of engine oil to the threads of each head bolt.
  3. Start by tightening each head bolt to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm) in a crisscross pattern.
  4. Next, tighten each head bolt to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm) in the same crisscross pattern.
  5. Finally, torque each head bolt to the specified torque value according to the sequence provided in the table above.
  6. Double-check the torque on each head bolt to ensure they are all properly tightened.
